Short Biography [ⴰⴱⴷⴻⵍⴱⴰⵙⵉⵜ ⴷⴰⵀⵔⴰⵡⵉ]

Drs. Abdel Basset Dahraoui was born in 1976 in (BeniBouyach) Alhuceima, Morocco. After getting his Baccalaureate in his hometown, he moved to Fez to attend Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University. He completed his BA in English Language and Literature in 2001. Afterward, he decided to move to live in Rotterdam, in The Netherlands.   In 2004, he received another B.A degree from The University of Amsterdam in English Language and Culture, “The Idea of Kingship in Richard II ” (supervised by Dr. Betsy Knottenbelt and Dr. Roger Eaton). He joined The Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA), where in 2006 received his MA degree “The Issue of Amazighness in Assamid”, (supervised by Dr. Murat Aydemir and Prof. Dr. Mereille Rosello).

Currently he is a PhD candidate at The University Van Amsterdam (ASCA). His project is entitled The Amazigh Identity and Diasporic Media: The Affects of Migration on Notions of Cultural Identity and Memory in the Amazigh Songs, Films and Websites. It is supervised by Prof.dr.  P.P.R.W. Pisters(UVA) and Dr. D. Merolla(LEI). This project focuses on the various ways in which notions of cultural identity and memory are articulated in the present-day Amazigh (Berber) diasporic media.
