Annika Rulkens (1981) finished a Bachelor’s degree in History of medieval art at the University of Amsterdam in 2004, followed by an MPhil at Utrecht University in an interdisciplinary programme for Medieval Studies. She graduated cum laude on a thesis entitled ‘’Domus dei’ and ‘opus dei’: the Reichenau monastery in the eighth and ninth centuries’.

In September 2008 she started working on a PhD thesis concerned with monastic architecture during the reign of Louis the Pious (814-840), at the University of Amsterdam. Other research interests include the role of individuals and religious communities in building processes and patronage in a more general sense as well as questions of interdisciplinarity and iconography (of architecture). She enjoys sharing academic developments with the general public by means of exhibitions.

Please see the link below for information on other medievalists at the University of Amsterdam.
