Introduction
Ammeke Kateman is a PhD-student at the department of Religious Studies, University of Amsterdam. Funded by the Netherlands Inter-University School for Islamic Studies (NISIS, www.nisis.nl), she conducts her PhD-research on Muhammad ‘Abduh's interpretation of religion under the supervision of Professor Gerard Wiegers and Dr Richard van Leeuwen.

BA-thesis: De ontwikkeling van Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje (1918-1936). Aan de hand van zijn beschrijving van de politieke situatie in het Midden-Oosten na de Eerste Wereldoorlog (supervised by Prof Niek van Sas). - Bachelor Arabic Language and Culture (with distinction) at the University of Amsterdam.
BA-thesis: Dialoog met Europa. 'Abduh over geloof, islam en wetenschap (supervised by Dr Richard van Leeuwen).
