Annette M. B. de Groot
Biographical sketch
Annette de Groot received her Master’s in General Linguistics (cum laude) and her Ph.D. in Psycholinguistics (cum laude) at the University of Nijmegen (now Radboud University Nijmegen), The Netherlands. After completing her doctorate, she was awarded a (“Huygens”) postdoctoral fellowship by the Netherlands Organization of Scientific Research. She held this fellowship at the Department of Experimental Psychology of the University of Nijmegen. In 1987 she was appointed Associate Professor of Cognitive Psychology at the Department of Psychology of the University of Amsterdam. In 1994 she was appointed Full Professor in Experimental Psycholinguistics in this same department. De Groot has published on the psychology of reading and spelling (taking both a within-language and a cross-linguistic approach), word recognition and the mental lexicon, and, especially, on bilingualism and multilingualism. She has been a member of the editorial boards of Memory and Cognition and Psychonomic Bulletin & Review, and of the Social Sciences Editorial Board of the Amsterdam University Press. Currently she is a member of the editorial board of Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, and of the Advisory Board of Interpreting: International Journal of Research and Practice in Interpreting.
