Project description
In December 2006 my PhD-project started at the Amsterdam Center for Linguistics and Communication (ACLC) on Precursorsof Narrative Ability;Parental Strategies in Developmental Pragmatics.
Type and amount of data. Three children – two (binovular) twin sisters(born inNovember 1999) and their parents, and one boy (born in February 2000) and his parents (both families monolingual Dutch, high SES) have been followed from the time the children were 3 months old until now (they are 9 years old now) in free, naturally-occurring interaction at home. Every 3 months video recording of spontaneous parent-child interaction have been made, complimented by parental interviews. The length of the video-recordings varies from feeding situations to all sorts of free playing situations. In the interviews the parents were asked to report and reflect on actual developments, specifically in the communicative-linguistic domain. Data on elicited narratives have been collected at age 7 (Frog story test and Renfrew's Bus story). References
