Babak Rezvani studied Political Science (International Relations 2001) MA (drs.), Human Geography (Political and Cultural Geography 2004) MA (drs.), and  Master of Science Teaching Social Studies (MSc 2004). He has obtained all his degrees from the University of Amstrdam, while also having followed courses at the Leiden University and the VU University. He holds a certificate for teaching in the Dutch higher professional education(2003). 

Summer 2011 he was admitted to the programme of the prestigious the Hague  Academy of International Law, at the Peace Palace.

He is also the chairman of "EthnoGeoPolitics", a professional scientific body for the study of  Geopolitics,Ethnopolitics and Armed Conflicts.

He was awarded a grant in 2005 by NWO (Dutch Organization for Scientific Research) for his PhD project: "Ethnic Conflict in Multi-ethnic and Multi-religious regions: the Caucasus, Central Asia and Fereydan", under the Supervision of Professor Dr. Hans Knippenberg and Dr. Gertjan Dijkink. 

He worked previously (internship) in International Institute of Social History, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Touraj Atabaki., ina project about research on the sources of the Forced Labour Migration and Deportation in the Caucasus and Central Asia in the Stalinist Era (1920-1950).  And in  the department of Research and Documentation of the Refugee Council Rijnmond, Rotterdam , the Netherlands.  As a regional expert (the Caucasus, Central Asia, Afghanistan, and Iran ) (Regio-specialist in Dutch).

At this moment he is affiliated with the Amsterdam institute for Metropolitan and International development Studies (AMIDSt) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), and with Ceres, Interuniversity Research School for Resource Studies for Development, at the Utrecht University.
