Claes de Vreese is the founding Director of the Center for Politics and Communication (www.polcomm.org ). This is a meeting place for students, scholars, politicians, journalists and others interested in the relationship between the media and politics. Bio
Claes H. de Vreese (PhD) [[email]c.h.devreese at uva.nl[/email]] is Professor and Chair of Political Communication and Scientific Director of The Amsterdam School of Communication Research ASCoR in the Departmentof Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam. He is Director of NESCoR, the Netherlands School of Communication Research, the national research school in communication science, recognized by the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences KNAW. Finally, he is Adjunct Professor of Political Science and Journalism at the University of Southern Denmark.
His research interests include comparative journalism research, the effects of news, public opinion and European integration, effects of information and campaigning on elections, referendums and direct democracy.
He has published more than 80 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including Communication Research, Journalism Studies, Political Communication, International Journal of Public Opinion Research, Public Opinion Quarterly, Journal of Politics, Scandinavian Political Studies, European Journal of Communication, Journal of Politics, Public Opinion Quarterly, West European Politics, European Union Politics, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Mass Communication & Society, and European Journal of Political Research .
De Vreese teaches on topics relating to media and politics. He has taught at the European Journalism Center, the Department of Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam, and the International School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the UvA. He has visited universities is several countries and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University in 2004, and visiting professor at the University of Zurich in 2007 and the University of Southern Denmark in 2011/12.
He has presented more than 100 conference papers at national and international conferences. He has given invited lectures at universities and organizations in places such as Utrecht, Twente, Bergen, Edinburgh, Atlanta (Emory), Boston (Harvard), Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense, Copenhagen, Friedrichshafen, Zurich, Dublin, Oxford, Florence, Brussels, Taormina (Sicily), Perugia (Italy), Maastricht, Washington DC, Hilversum, Los Angeles (USC),Liverpool, and Reykjavik.

Claes H de Vreese was the winner of the 2004 Nils Klim Prize, awarded by the Holberg Foundation. The prize is awarded to "one or several researchers below the age of 35 at the time of the nomination deadline who have made outstanding and internationally recognised contributions in the areas of arts and humanities, social sciences, law or theology".
