Biographical sketch
After completing a bachelor in Industrial/ Organizational Psychology, I decided to apply for the Research Master Psychology to sharpen my skills in conducting sound empirical research. The research master also offered me an opportunity to do a research internship at New York University supervised by T.R. Tyler. There I also joined the NYU taekwondo team.
Following my graduation with honors, I worked for a management consulting firm for 7 months to get a taste of workplace consultancy based on applied research. To come to the conclusion that I still felt the urge to pursue a career in academic science. Hence my application for a Ph.D. positition on creativity, for which I was luckily admissioned by my current supervisors Carsten de Dreu and Bernard Nijstad.
Research
My research is aboutcreativity. We study the topic from a socialpsychological perspective.
Currently I am writing up a first set of studies on power and creativity. People in power can strengthen and retain their power position by finding solutions for pressing problems or . Those lacking power can climb the hierarchical ladder by being creative and standing out of the crowd. We show that when power positions are unstable --the powerful can thus lose position while the powerless can gain power-- those lacking power become more creative because they have a global processing style; they focus on the forest, not the trees.
The next set of studies in preparation will focus on death and creativity. More on this topic will come soon.
