12 september 2016

Between 22 September and 15 December 2016 the fifth ACMES Lecture Series will take place. Everyone with an interest in the Middle East, North Africa, and/or Islam is warmly invited to attend.

This year's opening lecture will be delivered by Heinrich Matthee. He will discuss the post-sanctions situation in Iran. He will analyze the current state of affairs in Iran and explore the implications for European business, also in terms of corporate social responsibility. Matthee's lecture will be followed by six biweekly lectures by prominent scholars from various national and international universities, discussing topics as varied as the Kurdish question, medieval Persian literature, and social accountability in Morocco, to name but a few. The final lecture will be held on 15 December by Khaled Fahmy, member of the ACMES Advisory Board and professor of history at the American University in Cairo. His lecture will be entitled 'Medicine and law in nineteenth-century Egypt'. During this last event, we will also hold the awards ceremony for the ACMES Thesis Prizes for the best BA and best MA thesis. More information about the Thesis Prize can be found here.

You can download the complete programme from the link below. All lectures will be held in English and are followed by a reception.
