Bridging migration academic research with European, national and urban policies
ACES Migration Network
The objective is to train early-career researchers from different departments of Social Sciences in presenting their findings to policy advice.
This method was used earlier at international conferences with a positive feedback.
We welcome research topics related to any aspect of migration with a (potential) policy impact. Early researchers could provide a novel advice with their recent research in migration related to urban policies at a national level or European policies.
The workshop consists of three parts: a) the preparation of a draft pitch a few days in advance to identify the target-public and the main ideas; b) the 1.5-hours training with tips to polish the pitch; and c) the 1.5-hours practice in small groups for feedback. The workshop is given by Mervyn Nankoe (experienced ProActief coach).
* Limited spots, please send your title of your research with a short description (100 words) by email to JuanFra Alvarado at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Part 1: Two weeks before the workshop, a document will be shared to guide the draft pitch that needs to be prepared beforehand.
12.45-13.30 Lunch and Share of experiences from other researchers
13.30-15.00 Part 2: To whom and how do I deliver my message?
Format: The coach uses hand-on exercises to deliver an effective message in the translation of academic finding into a pitch for policy advice. The session encourages to frame the research and findings in an innovative and interesting way for non-academic audiences.
15.00-15.20 Coffee Break
15.20-16.50 Part 3: How does my research pitch sounds to others?
Format: The participants are divided in groups where each will pitch to the rest. After that, the other participants give feedback. Group composition will be arranged in advance in line with research topics of each participant
17.00-onwards Closing remarks and closure of the event followed by drinks
