Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication
In 2004 I was appointed managing director of the ACLC (at first for 12, as of 2006 for 16 hours per week). Starting September 2009, I joined Bureau Onderzoek of the Faculty of Humanities, where I am responsible in particular for the registration of scientific output in Metis.
The Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC) is a research institute of the Universiteit van Amsterdam, in which researchers studying linguistics in its broadest sense collaborate.
The ACLC focuses on the study of both functionally and formally oriented linguistic research. The strength of ACLC is the broadness of its research and the interaction between the different types of approaches.

Lecturer French Linguistics
After working 8 years at the University of Utrecht, I was appointed in 1984 as a lecturer in French Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. In 2004 I was asked to be the managing director of the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication for 16 hours per week. Besides my work for the ACLC (see below), I was still working in the French department for 12 hours per week. I taught French linguistics, in general the courses for students of the first and second year, as well as a master course. As of 2007 I was also involved in teaching the optional course Langue des jeunes.
As of September 2009 I am no longer working in the French Department. Instead, I am a member of staff of Bureau Onderzoek of the Faculty of Humanities.

Romance Linguistics
Research topics
1. French copular constructions, in particular predicate nominals as opposed to argumental NPs, and clefts. Work in this area has been going on since 1976, and has resulted in a PhD thesis. The aim of the project is to analyze and to describe,within the framework of Generative Grammar, what the differences in behaviour are between DPs that function as arguments and DPs that function as predicates.
2. Different aspects of adjectival constructions in French, in particular the attributive/predicative distinction, and the internal structure of APs. Work in this area has been carried since 1992 in collaboration with Aafke Hulk,and since 1997 in collaboration with Petra Sleeman, both from the University of Amsterdam. The aim of the project is to find out how one can account for the different internal structure, and the different positions in French, of adnominal adjectival constructions. The method used is that of Generative Grammar.

French syntax
In 1995 I started teaching French syntax as well, together with my colleagues BepVlugter and Petra Sleeman. Since we were not quite pleased with the book we used for our first year students, we started writing a grammar book by ourselves. The first edition of Grammaire Plus appeared in 2000. The second one in2003, and the third in 2008. The book contains a cd-rom with additional exercises,answers and feedback.
