Current and recent research projects
I'm currently working as postdoctoral researcher on the project "Nouns and verbs, and what it means not to have them", with an NWO VENI-grant from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research.
My project investigates the semantics and morpho-syntax of word classes in a sub-family of Oceanic languages, from a functional-typological perspective.
In relation to this project, I'm co-editing a book on flexible word class systems, together with Jan Rijkhoff.
After obtaining my PhD in Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam in 2009, I worked for two years as a postdoctoral research associate with Prof. Anna Siewierska at Lancaster University, on the project "Referential hierarchies in morpho-syntax" (RHIM), funded by the European Science Foundation (see EuroBABEL link below). In May2011 we hosted an international workshop on referential effects in ditransitive constructions. I'm currently guest-editing a special issue of Linguistic Discovery, containing contributions to this workshop, in memory of Anna Siewierska.
My PhD research comprised a typological study of word class systems and dependent clause constructions in 50 languages. Specifically, it investigates the relation between functional flexibility of lexical and clausal constructions in any particular language.
