Background
I studied Life Science & Technology at the Leiden University and the TU Delft. I completed the research master Functional Genomics. I did internships in the fields of bacteriology and virology. In the beginning of 2011 in started working on a PhD project at the Aquatic Microbiology group of the University of Amsterdam.
Research project
My current research project is about the effect of rising / different CO2 concentrations on phytoplankton species composition. The focus lies on freshwater cyanobacteria, including the toxin producing species Microcystis aeruginosa. Monoculture and competition experiments will be carried out in special designed chemostats. Microarrays and real time PCR will be used for gene expression analyses.
The CO2 project is funded by a NWO TOP grant. The other people working on the project are Jolanda Verspagen and Dina Stanic.
