Short description

Josien de Klerk (1975) studied Cultural Anthropology at the Radboud University in Nijmegen and specialised in Medical Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. She obtained her masters in 2000 from the Radboud University with a thesis on tuberculosis care in South Africa . She has worked as a researcher and programme manager for different development organizations; Doctors without Borders in Kenya, WorldGranny in the Netherlands, and as  as a junior lecturer for the University of Amsterdam. She started her PhD research in 2002, focusing on experiences of old age and care in the era of AIDS in northwest Tanzania.

 

 

Currently she is working as a postdoctoral researcher in the 'Filling the Gaps' programmewhich studies changing social institutions in the era of AIDS in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia. Within this broader project she looks at gaps in family care arrangements in Tanzania and Kenya, with a focus on the health of caregivers.
