Research topics- The construct of language proficiency in terms of (1) basic and higher language cognition, and (2) core and periphery.
- Automaticity of lower-orderinformationprocessing (e.g. access and retrieval ofinformation at the word and sentence levels) as a prerequisite for fluency in L2 listening, reading, speaking and writing.
- Explicit versus implicit accounts ofL2 learning and L2 instruction. Symbolist versus connectionist accounts of the representation of L2 knowledge.
- Laboratory research on learning artificial lexical items and artificial grammar rules.
- Incidental and intentional L2 vocabulary learning. Effects of thequality and quantity of the processing of lexical information.
