Jo Hermanns (developmental psychologist) is professor of Childhood Education and Family Support. His research focuses on processes of parenting and parenting support. For an understanding of these processes, what can go wrong in families and what kind of (professional or informal) support can restore the balance in the family, a contextual approach is applied, in which not only micro processes in the family  but also the influence of the social, physical institutional and cultural environment are studied. Traditional families as well as special family constellations (families after divorce, fosterfamilies, families with same-sex parents and multiproblem families are studied).
