Introduction.
Welcome to my personal homepage. I'm a lecturer at the department of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Amsterdam, specialized in greek linguistics. My fields of interest are the phonological structure of Greek (Modern, Ancient, Mycenaean), complex segments in particular in Greek, the historical evolution of Greek and the teaching of Greek as a foreign language.
Courses I teach.
Introduction in Greek linguistics.
In this course, students will learn to recognize and explain the main features of the Greek language. A wide range of phenomena will be discussed, among others language contact, topic and focus realization, phonological segments, Greek dialects, flection, history of the language, sociolects, language acquisition, clause structure, sound changes, morphological compounding, complementizers and phonological processes.
Greek linguistics 1: Syntax.
Students will learn to analyze some syntactic characteristics of Greek within the theoretical framework of generative syntax. Special attention will be given to the verbal aspect, the complementizers, the hierarchic structure of the clause, the interaction between morphology and syntax and the left periphery of the clause.
Greek linguistics 2: Phonology.
Sudents will give an account of the main phonological features of Greek within the theoretical framework of optimality theory and the segmental representation. Discussed will be, among others, the segment inventory, the syllable structure, phonological processes, complex segments, stress and intonation.
Greek linguistics (MA).
Methods of linguistic research. Students will learn to observe new linguistic problems and to apply the appropriate research method in orderto obtain additional data. Discussed will be, among others, questionaires, tests, acoustic analyses and grammaticality judgements. Besides linguistics, I also teach philosophy of science and several language courses.
