Short biography
After a scientific career of ten years that culminated with a position as department head of the scientific research institute FOM-AMOLF and a professorship at the VU University Amsterdam, I worked for management consultants McKinsey & Company (where I was involved in restructuring former government organisations and developing plans for European pension funds, among other things). I was able to further hone my skills in analytical research and management from 2002 to 2005 as director of FOM-AMOLF (200 employees), and from 2005 to 2008 when, as director, I established an auditor’s office with statutory responsibility for the provinces of Flevoland, Noord-Holland,Utrecht and Zuid-Holland. From February 2008 to April 2009 I was director of the Imaging Department ofASML. I was appointed dean of the Faculty of Science of the UvA effective 1 May 2009.
