About Maaike

Since Summer 2008, I am the Research Manager of the Amsterdam School of Communication Research. Before coming to the University of Amsterdam, I received my PhD in Educational Science from Utrecht University. I obtained my MA in English - specializing in linguistics - from the University of Groningen.

About ASCoR

The Amsterdam School of Communication ResearchASCoR is the research institute in Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam. It is the largest research institute of its kind in Europe and is among the largest and most renowned research centers in communication science worldwide. More than 50 senior researchers are permanently associated with ASCoR, and its English-language PhD program hosts more than 30 students. ASCoR chairs the national research school, NeSCoR, the Netherlands School of Communications Research which is accredited by the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW).

ASCoR Research Management

As the ASCoR Research Manager I work, in close cooperation with the ASCoR Scientific Director and our three Program Group Directors, on the design, development, implementation, and assessment of ASCoR research, training, financial-administrative and communication policies. My tasks include, for example:

  • (Re)developing local research policies.
  • Managing and implementing research progress reports, research budget allocations, contract research, and selection of PhD candidates.
  • Drafting output reviews, including annual reports and external assessment reviews.
  • Promoting and supporting research grant acquisition from NWO (the national science foundation), the EU and other research sponsors.
  • Managing and implementing the ASCoR PhD program, including PhD project monitoring.
