Biography
Melle Kromhout (Amsterdam, 1984) completed his bachelor in Musicology with a thesis on the work of Einstürzende Neubauten and his master in Cultural Analysis with an analysis of authorship and political engagement in the work of Matthew Herbert. He has written about the conceptual implications of lo-fi recording and redefining the role of noise in the work of Throbbing Gristle. His current PhD-research focuses on a revaluation of the position of noise in recorded music and the development of a concept of ‘noise identities’ as akey for assessing the relation of recording media to the production of musical meaning.
