André Nollkaemper
Profile
André Nollkaemper is Professor of Public International Law and Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Law of the University of Amsterdam. Since May 2011 he also is (external) Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. He is Member of the Board of the European Society of International Law.
Prior to accepting to serve as (external) Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was member of Advisory Commission on Public International Law of the Netherlands and of-counsel at Bohler, attorneys in Amsterdam.
In 1999, he established the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL), which he directed untill 2008. The ACIL has become a centre of excellence at the University of Amsterdamand ranks amongst the top institutions for international law in the Netherlands.
His practical experience includes cases before the European Court on Human Rights, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, courts of the Netherlands and consultancy for a variety of international and national organisations.

Research
André Nollkaemper directs several major research projects in various areas of international law.At ACIL, he directs the research programme at ACIL on the international rule of law.He also directs the related project The Internationalisation of Rule of Law – Changing Contexts and New Challenges, sponsored by Hiil.
Since 2010, he also directs the project on Shared Responsibility in International Law, sponsored under an Advanced Investigator Grant by the EuropeanResearch Council.
He also directs and conducts several projects relating to the interactions between international law and national law. He is Editor in chief of the Oxford Reports on International Law in Domestic Courts; Chair of the COST ACTION (funded by the EU under FP7) on International Law in Domestic Courts and author of a large number of publications on this topic.
