Research

I am a PhD fellow at Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) with a thesis on the configurations of philosophical scepticism in contemporary cinema (supervisor: Prof. Dr. Josef Früchtl). The project critically discusses recent Anglo-American scholarship, particularly the work of Stanley Cavell and analytic film philosophers, about possible relations between philosophy and cinema. Case studies analyze the narrato-aesthetic philosophical strategies of selected films. These case studies also serve to develop a methodology for analyzing filmsfrom a philosopher's perspective.

Being trained in analytic philosophy, my research focuses on film philosophy and theory, film analysis, epistemology, theories of intermediality, adaptation theory, and children's media analysis. I am also interested in developments in social media and online journalism.

I received an M.A. degree in philosophy, media studies and ancient history from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Germany) and an MA in Media and Culture (Film Studies) from the University of Amsterdam.

Teaching

In addition to working at ASCA, I regularly teach seminars on theories of intermediality and on children's media analysis at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf in Germany (see tab "Teaching"). I also co-direct a research and teaching project on the intermediality of children's literature. For more information about these projects, click here:
