Short Biography
I received my master’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism from Iran university of Science and Technology, Tehran . That lead to my collaboration with EBA[M] office of Architecture in Tehran since 2004 as an architect and founding member. I joined Berlage Institute in Rotterdam in 2008, and in 2010 I received that institute’s post-graduate diploma of design-based research in Architecture, urbanism and built environment. Since September 2010 I have been a phd candidate at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) as a member of the Cities Project.
Research
In my research, I undertake an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of built and imagined dimensions of city life. In that respect, my project investigates the intersections of Architecture, Urbanism, Cinema, Visual culture, Social theory and Human Security, within the scope of contemporary Cities. My research project is entitled: 'Non-Visibility and the Politics of Presence: A spatial analysis of contemporary Iran'. This project investigates the inter-relations of concepts of non-visibility, security, Human development, public and private, sphere of presence, youth habitus, mobility, everyday life and resistance in the context of Tehran, its lived environment and cinematic representations. Furthermore, it introduces and analyses specific ‘spatialities’, among which are: Cars within the city, Shopping centers, Sports, and rooftops. In that respect, I am currently working on the position of cars in the films of Abbas Kiarostami
