Rob Hagendijk (1949)

Associate Professor in the Political Science Department of the Universiteit van Amsterdam. MA Sociology (1979, with honors) , PhD Science and Technology Studies (1996).Dean of the International School of Humanities and Social Sciences (ISHSS) 1998-2008. Visiting scholar Harvard University 2001, 2008, Oxford University UK, 2009.

My research interests include social theory, scientific and technological controversies, public understanding of science, science in less developed countries, social sciences and public policy

Recently we concluded the EU funded project ResIST (Researching Inequality through Science and Technology), a three year collaborative project coordinated by the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization at Oxford University. See http://www.resist-research.net/ for further information.

From 2003-2005 I was involved in the EU funded STAGE thematic network investigating forms of public participation in processes of science, technology and innovation in fourteen European countries. See http://www.stage-research.net/

Further activities and connections: From 1996-2000 president of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology EASST. Founder and Board Member of the Netherlands Graduate School for Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC) 1987-present. Initiator of the 'Science and Democracy Network', a Harvard based global network of scholars and researchers to discuss research work and developments in the theoretical perspectives related to issues of science and democracy.  See http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/sts/about/sdn.htm

Collaborative Editor of  the journal Science, Technology and Human Values and a Member of the ASSR.
